Gércia Biza

Mozambique

Gércia Biza, from Mozambique, currently serves as the Knowledge and Learning Manager at Tindzila Caminhos Sustentáveis, a Mozambican nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmental citizenship, social participation, and sustainable development. Her work focuses on rural and peri-urban communities, addressing challenges such as climate justice, corporate accountability, and human rights.

What motivates her most is her belief in the transformative power of informed and empowered communities. She is deeply inspired by the resilience of women and marginalized groups in the face of systemic injustices and climate challenges. This passion drives her unwavering commitment to integrating human rights and climate advocacy into sustainable development initiatives.

With the support of the JWH Initiative grant, she is advancing her leadership skills and deepening her expertise in climate justice, focusing on three key areas:

  1. English Language Proficiency – Enhancing her ability to participate in international discussions, contribute to global networks, and produce technical documents with greater confidence.
  2. Collaborative Leadership – Strengthening her capacity to lead diverse teams, foster cooperation, and achieve impactful results, particularly within Tindzila’s programs.
  3. Climate Advocacy – Gaining a deeper understanding of the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations, equipping her to advocate for equitable and sustainable solutions.

She hopes the JWH grant will enhance her ability to lead initiatives that integrate climate justice and human rights, particularly those supporting women and other vulnerable groups. She also aims to expand her professional networks and build essential skills in team management, strategic planning, and advocacy—key elements for driving impactful change in her community and beyond.

Her dream is to see a Mozambique where all communities, especially the most vulnerable, are equipped with the knowledge and resources to advocate for their rights and contribute to sustainable solutions. She aspires to lead impactful initiatives that address climate justice and human rights, creating pathways for inclusive development that prioritize women, marginalized groups, and local communities.
