Magdalene Idiang

Nigeria

Magdalene is a dedicated environmental justice advocate from Nigeria, with six years of impactful experience in community organizing, advocacy, capacity building, resource mobilization, and research. Her work focuses on addressing the exploitation of resources and land dispossession faced by Niger Delta communities due to capitalist-driven environmental degradation.

As a passionate campaigner, Magdalene has been instrumental in empowering grassroots communities to advocate for their rights, mobilize resources, and demand accountability. Her advocacy is deeply rooted in fostering sustainable solutions that prioritize people and the environment over profit.

Through the JWH Initiative Grant, Magdalene seeks to deepen her expertise in resource mobilization, public policy advocacy, and climate justice negotiations. She also aims to strengthen her leadership skills, particularly from a feminist perspective, to address the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable groups.

Magdalene’s vision is a future where Niger Delta communities are equipped to confront the challenges of climate change, reclaim their rights, and shape a sustainable and equitable environment. Her work continues to drive systemic change, ensuring justice and resilience for those most affected by environmental exploitation.
