Rachael Amongin
Uganda
Rachael Amongin, a passionate environmental activist from Uganda, has dedicated her life to advancing climate justice and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. Her work focuses on amplifying the voices of women, youth, and vulnerable groups affected by large-scale energy projects such as the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
Rachael is unwavering in her mission to raise awareness about the environmental destruction and human rights violations tied to fossil fuel developments. She champions equitable and sustainable solutions that prioritize environmental protection and community well-being over profit. Her advocacy centers on ensuring a just energy transition that respects human rights and protects ecosystems.
Motivated by the resilience and courage of the communities she serves, Rachael envisions a future where energy governance promotes sustainability and inclusivity. Through the JWH Initiative, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication to sharpen her leadership and storytelling skills. This education empowers her to shape public discourse on climate change, land rights, and clean energy transitions while amplifying the voices of those most affected by these issues.
Rachael dreams of a world where marginalized groups, especially women and youth, thrive in sustainable environments. Through her work at AFIEGO, she is committed to fostering environmental justice, promoting inclusive policies, and empowering communities to lead dignified and sustainable lives.
