Yemi Knight
Barbados
I’m Yemi Knight, a Barbadian advocate for environmental and human rights with a passion for creating inclusive, equitable solutions to today’s most pressing challenges. Based in Barbados, I work with a coalition of LGBTQ+ advocates to campaign for constitutional protections for gender identity, sexual orientation, and environmental rights. Through my NGO, AnchorBridge, I’ve partnered with the International Organization for Migration to ensure LGBTQ+ individuals are included in disaster planning—because justice must include everyone, especially the most marginalized.
Thanks to the JWH Initiative Grant, I have taken two courses at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus: Social and Environmental and Economic Impact Assessment and Risk, Crisis, and Disaster Management. These have expanded my skills in analyzing climate impacts and managing crises in vulnerable communities.
While I’m new to the JWH network, I’m already inspired by its global community of experts and change makers. I look forward to exchanging ideas and learning from diverse contexts to strengthen my work in Barbados and the Caribbean. At the same time, I’m eager to contribute my own skills and insights to support others in advancing critical climate justice initiatives. Together, we can drive collective impact and build a more resilient, equitable future.
